Gutter installation and repair services in Michigan Center and Leoni Township

Gutter Boy is based on Gilletts Lake Road, a short drive from Michigan Center. Michigan Center (ZIP 49254) sits just east of the City of Jackson around Center Lake, which was formed by a dam in 1911 and connects by water to Round, Price, Moon, Dollar and Wolf lakes. Gutter work here's shaped by houses that face the water, rooflines that have grown with additions, and lots where every foot of yard matters.

For lake homes in Michigan Center, the usual gutter priorities are: enough downspouts for complicated rooflines, discharge that doesn't soak a narrow side yard or a walkout basement, and guards where trees line the shore.

Gutter problems we look for on Michigan Center lake homes

Rooflines with several sections and valleys

Where a house has been added onto over the years, with a porch enclosed here and a second story there, you end up with several roof planes meeting in valleys. Each valley concentrates water onto a short stretch of gutter.

That's where overflow happens, and where a 5 inch gutter with a single downspout falls short. Adding an outlet right under the valley, or stepping up to 6 inch gutters with 3x4 inch downspouts, solves most of it.

Walkout basements facing the lake

Houses built on the slope down to the water often have a walkout level on the lake side. Downspouts on that side shouldn't dump onto the patio or against the lower wall. They need to carry water past the hard surfaces to ground that can absorb it.

Tight side yards

On closely spaced lake lots, the side yard between houses can be only a few feet wide. A downspout emptying into that strip floods it and can push water toward the neighbor's foundation as well as yours. Moving the downspout to the front or back corner is often better than any extension in a narrow side yard.

Detached garages and outbuildings

Garages and sheds without gutters drip onto the same ground the house sits on and wear trenches next to driveways. A short run of seamless gutter with one downspout is a small job and keeps that water under control.

Lake wind, snow and gutter hangers

Homes that face open water take more wind than homes tucked between other houses, and in winter that wind drifts snow onto roofs and into gutters unevenly. Combined with Jackson's average of around 37 inches of snow a year, gutters on the lake side carry a lot of weight for long stretches. Hidden hangers spaced 24 inches or closer, screwed into solid fascia, keep those runs straight.

Michigan Center gutter questions

Do you install gutters on garages and boathouses?

Yes. Garages and outbuildings get the same seamless gutters as the house. Short runs often need just one downspout placed where water can drain away from the driveway.

Where should downspouts drain on a walkout lake lot?

Away from the lower walls and past the patio onto lawn or landscaping that slopes toward the lake. Spread the water across the lawn on its way to the shore.

Why does my gutter overflow at only one corner?

Usually a roof valley is dumping onto that spot, or the outlet nearby is clogged. Adding an outlet under the valley or upsizing the downspout fixes it in most cases.
